"You can't say that, Lord!" When God shook me to the core.

It pains me that the age-old debate of whether women can be leaders for the kingdom, is still going and I am sad that parts of the bible are still used to keep one half of God’s children in bondage.

This is why, I don’t wish for the world to be more biblically aligned, I wish for it to be more Christ-like and aligned with the character and nature of Christ…who, by the way, came to show us who God REALLY is.

Jesus was revolutionary in His attitude to women. Not just to women actually, to ALL those that were considered second-class in some way.

I cried out to the Lord one day and I asked why with a church on every corner, it still seemed so powerless and ineffectual and what He replied, knocked me of my chair!

He said, “Because they continue to put Me in a box”.

I said, “What box?”

He replied, “The bible.”

You can’t say that God! The bible is holy. The bible is our sword. The bible is you!

Yup, that’s what I said to God 🤦 because that is what I believed and what most of the church still believe.

It was from then, that I began an uncomfortable journey of discovery to find out more….and I am still on it! 👣 👣 👣

Why uncomfortable? Because it shook to the core everything that I had been taught.

Hebrews 12:26-29 26 At that time his voice shook the earth, but now he has promised, “Once more I will shake not only the earth but also the heavens.” 27 The words “once more” indicate the removing of what can be shaken—that is, created things—so that what cannot be shaken may remain.

28 Therefore, since we are receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken, let us be thankful, and so worship God acceptably with reverence and awe, 29 for our “God is a consuming fire.”

I realized that because through tradition, we universally call the bible, the word of God, it somehow detracts from the REAL Word of God, whom the bible even TELLS us is the Word of God and whom is the sword. So as not to give you spoilers, I won’t tell you yet who that is but I hope you can work it out!

I try hard now to call the bible, the bible, rather than the word of God, not always easy – YEARS of tradition. But it’s not through disrespect, it’s through revelation.

I study and read my bible, yes – to the point it is actually falling apart and I need a new one because the pages are falling out but what I don’t do any more is idolize it, worship it as the be all and end all or put it above Christ or AS Christ. The One the bible POINTS TO, is the be all and end all – He said so Himself, “I am the Alpha and the Omega, the beginning and the end”.

And whilst we can use the bible as an amazing discovery tool, that’s NOT who our relationship should be with AND it’s not the only book or event that leads to Christ.

If "for from Him and through Him and to Him are all things." (Romans 11:36), how can that be?!

God has not just spoken to me through the bible, He has spoken to me in some powerful and sometimes strange ways. Not just me, others too but there are Christians who believe that God will ONLY speak to them through the bible! That’s NOT EVEN what the bible says! 🤦

Some people are so buried in their bible that they forget to love, they forget to show the world who God really is. They are judgmental, point fingers, are argumentative, critical and so unloving. They can debate till the cows come home and throw “relevant” bible verses at ya, but where is the love? 🤔

Christ was love in action, which means God is love in action, which means, that’s who we should be. Anyone can debate, but it’s harder to love…God’s way (see Corinthians 1:13).

So whilst y’all are still debating about who the Holy Spirit anoints and gifts and why He is gender specific about it, I and the other women who Jesus has set free, will continue to do what it is He has called us to do and the great thing is, we don’t need your permission to do it!

John 8:32 and you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.

John 8:36 So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.

Galatians 5:1 For freedom Christ has set us free; stand firm therefore, and do not submit again to a yoke of slavery.
